AT&T at a glance

All four AT&T unlimited plans include talk, text and data in Canada and Mexico. The cheapest, Value 2.0, has only 5 GB of premium data before it may be slowed. Extra 2.0 raises that to 100 GB, and Premium 2.0 and Elite 2.0 are never slowed. Elite adds international data in 210+ countries and a free tablet and watch line.

The advertised prices include a $10 per line discount for AutoPay with paperless billing from a bank account or AT&T's own credit card; with a debit card the discount is $5, and with other credit cards there is none. AT&T also adds an administrative fee of up to $4.99 per line plus taxes.

AT&T does not publish prices for two or three lines on most plans. For families of four it regularly runs bring-your-own-phone offers that bring the price per line down sharply.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Canada and Mexico included on every unlimited plan
  • Premium and Elite are never slowed
  • Large family discounts at four lines

Watch out for

  • Value 2.0 has only 5 GB of premium data
  • Best price needs AutoPay from a bank account
  • Extra admin fee per line

Who AT&T is best for

Families who want AT&T coverage and travel to Mexico or Canada. If you want AT&T's network for less, Cricket runs on it with taxes included.

Switching to AT&T and keeping your number

To bring your number, you need your current carrier's account number and a transfer PIN. Do not cancel your old line yourself; it closes automatically once the transfer completes. Our guide on keeping your number walks through every step.

Leaving AT&T? Dial *PORT from your AT&T phone or request a transfer PIN in the AT&T app or on att.com. The PIN is free and valid for 4 days. Wireless Account Lock must be off.

Using AT&T abroad

The International Day Pass costs $12 a day for the first line and $6 for each extra line, with at most 10 daily fees per line per bill. Compare with travel eSIMs on our eSIM & travel page.

Cheaper alternatives on the same network
