The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 at $449.99. On September 1, 2026, Nintendo raised the US price to $499.99. If you were waiting for a price drop, that is not how it went. The good news: the console is easy to find in stock now, and sealed units regularly sell for less than list price on eBay. Today the lowest new price we found is $485.

What a Switch 2 really costs
The console is only the start. A realistic first-year budget looks like this:
- The console: $499.99 at list price, less when you find it on sale. It comes with two Joy-Con 2 controllers, the dock, a charger and an HDMI cable.
- A game or two: new first-party Switch 2 games are typically $70 to $80. Bundles with a game included can save money if it is a game you want anyway.
- Storage: 256GB is built in. For more, you need a microSD Express card; ordinary microSD cards do not work for Switch 2 games.
- Nintendo Switch Online: needed for most online play.
- Extra controllers: the Pro Controller ($73.99 today) is the comfortable choice for long sessions, and a second pair of Joy-Con 2 ($79.99) makes four-player games possible.
What you get over the first Switch
- A bigger 7.9-inch 1080p screen that runs at up to 120Hz, with HDR.
- Up to 4K output on a TV when docked.
- 256GB of storage instead of 32GB or 64GB.
- Joy-Con 2 that attach with magnets and can be used as a mouse in supported games.
- GameChat with a dedicated C button for voice chat and screen sharing with friends.
- Most Switch 1 games work, cartridges and digital purchases alike.
How to pay less
- Compare with list price. Anything at or above $499.99 is not a deal, whatever the "was" price says.
- Look at bundles carefully. A bundle is only cheaper if you would buy the included game anyway. Compare the bundle price with the console price plus the game.
- Buy the accessories later. Controllers and memory cards go on sale more often than the console itself.
- Avoid the Japan-only model. Nintendo's cheaper Japanese Switch 2 only works in Japanese with a Japanese account. Our tracker filters it out.
- Watch the price history. Every product page shows the daily lowest price, so you can tell when a price is unusually low.
Buying a new Switch 2 on eBay
- We only show listings marked as new from US sellers with at least 98% positive feedback and 100 or more ratings. Refurbished, open-box and regional versions are filtered out.
- Some listings are bundles with a game. Read the title, and compare with the console-only price in our table.
- Pay through eBay checkout so eBay's Money Back Guarantee applies, and check the seller's return policy.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the Nintendo Switch 2?
The US list price is $499.99 since September 1, 2026. The console launched on June 5, 2025 at $449.99; Nintendo raised the price by $50, citing changes in market conditions. Bundles with a game cost more. New consoles sometimes sell below list price on eBay; the table in this guide shows today's lowest price.
Do I need a memory card for the Switch 2?
The Switch 2 has 256GB of built-in storage, which holds a good number of games. If you need more, the console only accepts microSD Express cards for games. Regular microSD cards from the first Switch can only be used to copy screenshots and videos.
Can the Switch 2 play Switch 1 games?
Yes, most Nintendo Switch games run on the Switch 2, both cartridges and digital purchases. Some games get free or paid upgrades that improve them on the new console. Nintendo keeps a list of the few games with known issues.
What is a game-key card?
Some Switch 2 games are sold as a game-key card: a cartridge that holds a key to download the game rather than the game itself. You need an internet connection to download it the first time, and the card must be in the console to play. Check the box if you want a game that is fully on the cartridge.
Is a Japanese Switch 2 cheaper?
Nintendo sells a cheaper Switch 2 in Japan that only works in Japanese and with a Japanese Nintendo Account. It is not a good buy in the US. Our price tracker filters out regional versions, so the prices we show are for the US console.
